Mountain Gorilla Infant

Soft pastels and pastel pencils

Original Artwork (29.7cm x 21cm)

I photographed this gorilla infant during a mountain trek in Rwanda. It was wonderful to see the Hirwa gorilla family group in their natural environment and witness their behaviours and characteristics. I loved how similar the infants were to human children; lots of playing, rolling all over the floor and swinging in tree branches. I couldn’t help but laugh!

I wanted to capture that essence of youthful naivety and joyful cheekiness in my artwork as it reminds me of children playing hide-and-seek behind objects where you can still see them!

I am delighted to announce that 'Peepo' was invited to join the 2022 Explorers Against Extinction 'Sketch for Survival'. My artwork joined the exhibition at the gallery@oxo in London in November 2022 and was auctioned off to raise  money for selected frontline conservation projects.
